When you own a home with a sprinkler system and have had a home without one, you can appreciate the benefits of having a sprinkler system. A sprinkler system is a difference between having a dead lawn versus a green one. A sprinkler system reduces your water bill, water used, and time that you would have spent moving the hose around in the back. There really is no way going back once you have had a sprinkler system. I had a neighbor with a corner lot that I always saw out in his yard watering his lawn. He was always there. I asked him if he thought about getting a sprinkler system to save him some time. He said he enjoyed the extra workout he gets from moving the hose around. If you are like me, that is just insane. My time is precious and much better spent doing other things.

Now, what about sprinkler problems after a while? Yes like everyone else, I have needed a sprinkler repair time or two. The best thing about these sprinkler systems is that they make them so durable that they rarely need any repair. I bought my sprinkler system over eight years ago, and they have only had to repair it two times in those eight years. I do get my spring tune-up every spring allowing my sprinkler technician to check every aspect of my sprinkler system from zone to zone to ensure no leaks, appropriate spray, not clogged heads, soggy spots, or any other symptom my sprinkler system was acting a fool.

The only extra thing I have done is sprinkler winterization. I get this done when the weather starts to drop and the grass is in hibernation mode anyway. The best time to winterize your sprinkler system is before temperatures are below freezing. A sprinkler guy will come out and blow all the water out of my system to ensure no water is left to freeze, expand, and break those pipes. That would be a nightmare to fix and fortunately never had my pipes burst. This is one service I would never forget.

The two sprinkler problems I have ever had was a clogged sprinkler head on two different occasions. This problem was presented with what they call a sprinkler head cold. Get it?! The sprinkler head acts like it has a cold and has signs of coughing and sputters as it tries to operate in that zone. A clogged sprinkler head occurs when dirt and other debris migrate into the sprinkler head. When the system is running, it is unable to bypass this obstruction and results in a reduced spray, decreased grass watering, and a sputtering sound when trying to function. When this was occurring, I let it go on for a couple of weeks. My grass by that sprinkler head started to die. The sprinkler guy told me the sprinkler head is clogged and was underwatering my lawn in that area. It was just one patchy area where the sprinkler head should have sprayed. Once he cleared the obstruction in the sprinkler head, my sprinkler system was back to functioning the way it used too.

Regular septic maintenance helps avoid the need to create sewage backups. Someone will agree with me on the fact that doing something early and on a regular basis helps you avoid additional hustles that come along the way. Now, let’s come back to the septic maintenance. If we maintain our septic on a regular basis, we will basically be avoiding problems such as blockage and the need to construct sewage backups. There are a number of reasons why sewage backups are very important but far from that, there are a number of reasons why regular maintenance helps us avoid the need to create a backup.

Regular pumping help you avoid regular blockage

Doing septic pumping on a regular basis saves you from that foul smell that arises when your septic systems jams or fails to function. Not to mention the inconvenience of not being able to flush the toilet if you forget your septic tank service. In order to avoid this, make sure that you do septic pumping, and this should be on a regular basis. A good question to ask is, “How regular is regular?” It is simple, in this article, you will get an idea of how often you need to pump your septic tank or have it professionally done to avoid septic problems and keep things running smoothly at your home or business.

Septic pumping should be done monthly on special cases

Special cases mean when the circumstances under which the septic tank is as that time. For example, if you have one small septic tank that serves a number of households, then it is very crucial to pump it regularly. Due to the size, this septic tank will fill up regularly and require frequent visits from a septic professional throughout the year. Pumping it on a regular basis is very important because it helps you avoid blockage. If you can do it on a regular basis, then it is very crucial to do the septic pumping, and save yourself from issues that come with cleaning up an overflowing sewage system. How often do you pump your septic tank? I hope that you normally pump it once a month or within a very short period of time.

Ensure thorough solid waste removal

Septic maintenance is not just septic pumping. It is not all about checking whether there are problems with it either. If you have just sought for septic maintenance services, it is important to make the service provider know of the need to remove all solid wastes from your septic tank and assess for any other septic services needed. The removal of solid waste materials from the septic tank always ensure that there is no blockage at all. It is very crucial therefore to remove solid wastes to prevent blockage. Septic professionals will make sure that solid wastes are disposed into the right place and not be flushed into the septic system.

I am a small local business owner in a small city in Texas. I sell sprinkler systems and repair them for customers. I enjoy fixing a sprinkler head or creating a new zone for my customers. I have had this sprinkler company for over a decade now. I used to struggle to pay my mortgage, car loan, phone, and utility bills, but I don’t anymore. I used to do everything by myself, but now I use a  company for internet marketing. They started as my marketing consultant.

The difference here between a sprinkler company with a marketing company and one without one is huge. Business owners don’t have time to market for themselves. That’s a big problem if they want to grow and want to grow. I used to have to do everything myself for fear if it would get done wrong. After I found out about marketing companies and how they can truly help me, I had to try it. I worked so many hours trying to get my business out to potential customers and do my job at the same time. Talk about walking in slow motion. You don’t get anywhere with this methodology or at least nowhere quickly.

I hired a marketing team on to do one thing. I wanted them to grow my business at any means. I told them I didn’t care how much business came my way that I would find a way to install and repair any sprinkler system that came my way. It started off slowly but by the third month, I was busy and happy. I had no problem paying my bills and planning vacations. I had to hire new staff to support the new demands I had for my services. I mean what a relief that was to be in that situation.

Don’t get me wrong, there were some problems I had to overcome with growth. However, if you want to truly grow, you will enjoy all the lessons ahead. I no longer stress about money or whether my company is going to make it. Customers flood our phone system, and our email systems are bogged down by new potential customers every day. We are booked weeks out at a time. Yes, soon I will be hiring more staff again.

Eventually, I needed even more help. I hired a manager to take care of things, while I took a side seat to enjoy the finer things in life. I also had to hire even more staff. I was so amazed about what internet marketing did for the company that I recommend it to any of my friends that own a business. I got to watch my business grow from a tiny pecan to a huge pecan tree. It was such an amazing site in just a few short years. It’s no wonder there aren’t more businesses with a marketing company like mine.

Trees are pretty tough but not all will continue to thrive, especially when placed in an urban setting. From damaged roots to fungus infestation and cavities, some trees will tend to die if not treated immediately. When worse comes to worst, you may need to have it removed to avoid further damage to person and property. Of course, you shouldn’t take the risk of removing the tree on your own. Ask yourself first, “Is there a tree service near me?”

Tree Removal

Heavy rains, extreme snow, and strong winds can cause damage to trees. When the tree has become so damaged that the risk of it falling has become so apparent, then there’s nothing more important than to have it removed. Only tree removal experts know how to get rid of falling or diseased trees with minimal damage to your property.

Tree Cabling or Bracing

There are trees which are still healthy but may be suffering from various structural defects causing them to lean further in one area or to sway altogether. This creates a great tendency of falling. You can actually save your tree and your property through cables and braces. Bracing is installed to rectify the structure of the tree and ultimately avoid damage. Healthy trees can give you optimum benefits so it’s always better to have them checked and ensure their health.

Tree Trimming and Tree Pruning

Trimming is extremely essential to make sure that branches do not pose as hazards to motorists and pedestrians alike. Long branches often reach building windows, overhead lines, electrical poles, and even traffic lights. Sometimes, it could even obscure the view of drivers. Reduce the risk to both yourself and the people in the neighborhood through regular trimming and pruning.

Most tree service professionals also offer fruit tree pruning for maintenance and restorative purposes. Of course, all trimming and pruning jobs should only be done by an expert to achieve maximum potential.  Consider looking up an arborist for more information.

Wood Chipping

After the tree has been cut, remaining tree limbs and branches should also be gotten rid of. Most tree service professionals offer wood or tree chipping services for this. After the wood is chipped, it would be easier to haul away, doing away with all the hazard that scattered large branches and tree parts might cause. Most wood chips can be used to fertilize the soil, making it a very environment-friendly platform for recycling.

Stump Grinding

When removing or cutting down an unhealthy or risky tree, don’t just leave the stumps. Not only are they unattractive, but they could also cause harm to your family and basically anyone in the neighborhood. Small stumps can eventually cause tripping, falling, and stumbling. To prevent this, stumps can either be removed or ground.

You’ve seen the trees and you have reason to believe they need to be dealt with. Before doing anything, you should always seek the services of tree service experts. These professionals can help you make decisions about the trees within your property. A consultation can help you recognize the negative and positive effects of your actions.

Irrigation System & Water Use

Irrigation System
Irrigation System

It can be hard when you have a sprinkler system or just had your first system professionally installed to determine how much water your grass will need. When watering your yard, your sprinkler system should provide water to all areas until the top six to eight inches of soil is wet. This is where most turfgrass roots grow and are the secret to green lush grass. Don’t overwater your lawn that can be bad for your lawn and increase the number of weeds and mosquitoes.

As you adjust to your new system, you can tweak the settings to get it to where the topsoil is wet 6-8 inches deep and prevent drowning your lawn. On average, you will notice most lawns will need about one inch of water per week. During rainy months, you will greatly reduce the amount of watering needed by hardly running your irrigation system.  This will save additional money on water during those times. Also, be sure you decrease the amount of time your system is running to avoid overwatering during rainy seasons. If you have a rain sensor, you won’t have to care or worry about this. It’s better if you get a rain sensor to avoid the problem of over watering and drowning your lawn.

Since your lawn requires an inch of water per week you can do this in one watering session or multiple to break up the amount of water your grass gets. Some people will do it twice a week providing half an inch of water to the soil.

Is My Grass Getting Enough Water?

Sprinkler System
Sprinkler System

You can easily determine this by checking the soil. You will want to check every fifteen minutes if this is your first time running your sprinkler system to ensure you are not over watering. If you use a screwdriver, you can see how deep the water has moved. I like to mark the time the soil reaches six to eight inches. This will be the appropriate amount of time you need to water your lawn. Cool huh?!

If you don’t want to stand out on your lawn and check every fifteen minutes, you can work out a simple equation. You can also do the math to figure out the flow rate from gallons per minute. This number is found on the manufacturer’s website. You will use 0.62 gallons in your math equation to get the number of minutes to run your sprinkler.

Multiply the sq ft of the area your watering by 0.62 gallons and then divide by the sprinkler flow rate you got from the manufacturer’s website. You can always look for more information about water flow rate.  This will give you the number of minutes to run your irrigation system without getting a screw and standing out on your lawn.

For millions of people, taking care of the waste management of households is not as simple as just flushing out the toilet. To have an upkeep home, septic tank service is almost a necessity. You simply cannot go years and years without having a septic inspection, septic pumping, or some other service to maintain your septic tank. If you have a septic system in your home and you have failed to keep it maintained and cleaned on a regular basis, it can lead to a big problem. Septic issues are very inconvenient and very much costly to fix. Tackle them on the DIY process can be a trouble for many and, it is a good investment to hire a professional to deal with the maintenance and repairing task.

But daunting is to find out the best one from the market. Decide the right one after checking out a few important details:

Work type

All the septic tanks are not created equally and so it is better to look for a professional service provider who is familiar with different types of septic tanks. They can inspect it and work on it in a faster way. If the serviceman is properly qualified, simple cleanings tasks even can do wonders even they save the homeowners from simple cleaning tasks. Diagnosing the issue and know the solution, is the finest work of a professional. If the company is hands-on to several tanks, they can simply solve your issues in the least time. For example, a licensed septic technician can do an amazing job with your aerobic septic system than anyone else without a license.

License

Septic tank service

The company should have the necessary license. It is better to do some research on the company before deciding whether the company is right for you. If they have a set up near your home, you can visit the company and can inspect their reputation, service quality and finally the license. You can also call up your local health department to ensure whether the company you are choosing has the right credentials. When you are looking for a qualified service provider, the licensing entity and the health department can give you a useful suggestion. [Text Wrapping Break]Service quality

If the company holds all the necessary credentials that do not mean that they are equally effective to do their job. Check their working style, how much time they take, whether they have insurance options or more. Sometimes a simple cleaning or replacement can solve your issue but the septic service company makes a large list to increase their earnings. So, check how much honest the company and how they work. You can ask them for the contact details of their previous clients to find out their working style and quality.

When to Call a Baytown Plumbing Contractor

When to Call a Baytown Plumbing Contractor

Baytown Plumber
Baytown Plumber

Plumbing problems occur when we least expect it. Knowing when to call a plumber is important. Homeowners can get away with fixing some problems. Unfortunately, the homeowner could possibly be putting a bandaid on the problem while a bigger problem arises out of the original plumbing issue costing them much more money. In addition, attempting to fix a plumbing problem can result in personal injury, major property damage, and lots of additional repairs needed. If you experience any of these five problems, you need to call a plumber.

Low Water Pressure

You can see dribbling sinks and showers when this occurs. The problem is not easy to pinpoint. When you experience low water pressure the cause can be pipe obstructions, city supply issues, and poor pipe design. A plumber can recognize the source of your problem and fix it promptly correctly the first time. If you try to fix this yourself and fail, the low-pressure issue can actually damage your home and sewer lines resulting in more low flow enjoyment. Call your plumber!

No Hot Water

When your water heater fails, the homeowner enjoys cold showers. The water heater break downs can occur from a total breakdown to minor component defects that can simply be replaced. It’s definitely a great idea to hire a plumber to handle the source of your water heater’s breakdown. A homeowner shouldn’t play with electrical and gas systems as this can result in personal injury or damage to their home.

Pipe Blockage

If your pipes are backing up regularly and in a severe manner, it can be a blocked sewer line. The culprits can be tree roots, sediment build up, or non-flushable items affecting your sewer line. When a homeowner tries to clear a blockage on their own using chemicals or rodding machines, they can result in paying thousands of dollars to repair the damage they have just done to their sewer lines. This is especially important to have a plumber work on broken or punctured sewer lines because it can expose your home to raw sewage.

Burst Pipe

Baytown Leak Detection
Baytown Leak Detection

A burst pipe occurs in winter when frozen ice melts in the pipes. As the ice melts, it expands causing the pipe to break. These problems can be costly. The American Society of Mechanical Engineers works hard improving the materials made for plumbing pipes to avoid this.   For example, a cracked pipe can cause major flooding and cost thousands of dollars in water damage. Sometimes locating the cracked pipe can be difficult to locate and requires an experienced plumber. You can find damage anywhere even in your yard, below the foundation, and even in your walls. This is not a plumbing problem you want to delay. As soon as the plumber finds the problem, he can begin the water abatement process. The longer this problem goes unsolved the more time the water can seem into places it shouldn’t and cause more costly damage to the home.

Major Installation

It’s common sense if you have any major appliance or fixtures that need to be installed that you should hire a professional. If you are not a plumber and you don’t have the proper knowledge to install your appliance, don’t install it. You cause yourself an expensive repair or even worse an entire re-installation of the appliance. Definitely, have a plumber help when you are doing any renovations involving moving any appliances and fixtures. Even items like sinks and dishwashers will require the experience of a plumber. Don’t ruin expensive appliance and spend a little extra to get it done right.

Irrigation System in the Winter

Irrigation System in the Winter

Sprinkler Repair
Sprinkler Repair

Many homeowners have sprinkler systems and in the winter time, many of them have experienced the consequences of a hard freeze or below freezing weather. The problem affects your system not when it is initially turning into ice but as the ice melts. That’s when it is common to see bursting pipes and water spraying in large amounts. Yes, that’s our money being wasted.

After a hard freeze is over is commonly when you will be on your way to work and see water spraying in places it shouldn’t. This is a common problem.

It is important to winterize your irrigation system before it gets to such low temperatures your pipes are at risk for turning into icicles. If you forget to call a sprinkler company and request for this service, you will have an increased risk for bursting pipes, hoses, and equipment holding your water outside your home. When homeowners try to do it themselves, they will follow some video to winterize their home. I did it one year, and the thing the video didn’t cover was removing the water that is already in the system. It is important to purge all the water out of your sprinkler system using an air compressor. Most air compressors purchased at local stores like lowes don’t offer a compressor strong enough to remove all the water in your system. If you still plan to do this yourself, you need to use your air compressor at each zone to remove all the water in zone 1, 2, and 3. Each one will have to be done separately to be successful. If you don’t want to do this tedious task you have a third option of renting a larger air compressor from a hardware store or you can just simply call a sprinkler technician to do the work for you.

Sprinkler Repair Near Me
Sprinkler Repair Near Me

Since a sprinkler system costs thousands of dollars to install, I find it is not worth the few dollars I save to do it myself. If you fail to winterize your system correctly, your pipes will burst. You will call a sprinkler company after hours to bail you out. You will then be rewarded with a more expensive bill to fix your system. All this can be avoided by calling a licensed sprinkler technician to do the work they trained for. Check Texas irrigator’s license at the TCEQ Website.  If you leave any water in your pipes, the pipe will expand as the ice freezes, and then when the weather is warm the ice melts. This causes your pipes to burst. Don’t let it get to this point before you do something about it.

If you still insist on winterizing your system, set your air compressor to maximum 80 psi for rigid PVC pipes unless you have flexible polyethylene pipes. If you have the latter, set your regulator to 50 psi. You need to shut off your water and set your system to open each zone with a timer. If you happen to have a manual drain valve for each zone, open that. Finally, connect the airline to the blow out port. Once connected, add the other end of the hose to the compressor and turn it on. You will notice the water purging. This is what you want. You will also see the sprinkler heads pop up and blow out the water too. Once the system is empty, the water will stop blowing out. Your system is not winterized. You can have a worry-free winter. One tip is not to let the compressor run for a long time, the heat it generates can actually melt your lines. Once you have finished each zone you are completely done with your entire system.
